There is something beautifully humbling about watching your body change through the different seasons of life.
As a mom, I have learned that fitness is not just about how my body looks—it’s about how I feel, how I show up, and how I care for the person who is carrying me through every chapter.
Motherhood changes everything.
It changes your schedule.
It changes your priorities.
It changes your body.
And, if you allow it, it changes your soul in the most beautiful ways.
I look back at pictures of myself from years ago and sometimes I miss the version of me who had different amounts of time, different energy, and different responsibilities. But then I look at the woman I am today—the mom, the wife, the friend, the person who has lived, loved, grown, and experienced so much—and I feel gratitude.
Because this body has carried my sweet babies.
This body has worked hard.
This body has healed.
This body has changed because my life has changed.
And that is something to celebrate!
For a long time, I think many moms carry a quiet guilt when they invest in themselves. We tell ourselves there are too many other things to do. Too many people who need us. Too many responsibilities waiting. We convince ourselves that taking an hour to exercise, rest, or simply care for ourselves is selfish.
But I know now that it isn’t.
Self-care is not taking away from the people we love. It is giving ourselves the strength to continue loving them well.
Our children don’t need a mom who is constantly running on empty. They need a mom who shows them that taking care of yourself matters. They need to see that health, strength, and confidence are gifts we can choose at every age and every stage.
Fitness looks different in every season.
Sometimes it’s a hard workout that reminds you how strong you are.
Sometimes it’s a walk outside to clear your mind.
Sometimes it’s stretching, breathing, and simply being grateful for what your body allows you to do.
It’s not about chasing who you used to be.
It’s about honoring who you are becoming.
The changes in our bodies often mirror the changes in our lives. The seasons shift. Our children grow. Our schedules evolve. Our goals become deeper and more meaningful.
And through it all, we are allowed to make ourselves a priority.
Not because we are less devoted to our families.
Not because we are selfish.
But because we matter too.
I want my children to see a mom who loves them fiercely, but who also loves herself enough to take care of her own heart and health. I want them to see that strength comes in many forms—that confidence isn’t something we find, it’s something we build.
Here’s your gentle reminder, mama:
Go for the walk.
Take the class.
Lift the weights.
Rest when you need to.
Invest in yourself without guilt.
The beautiful thing about life is that we are always becoming.
Our bodies change.
Our souls grow.
Our time shifts.
But the love we pour into ourselves and those around us remains one of the greatest investments we can make.
And maybe the greatest gift we can give our families is showing them that we are worth caring for, too.
