Thinking about training?
Prepare and build up. Don’t jump into high mileage too quickly—gradual progress is key to avoiding injuries. Mix up your training with interval runs, long runs, and active recovery days.
Fuel Like an Athlete
Your body is your engine, so fuel it properly. Prioritize lean proteins, healthy fats, and complex carbs. Hydration is crucial, especially in Pensacola’s heat and humidity—keep your electrolytes balanced, and don’t wait until you feel thirsty to drink water.
The Right Gear Makes a Difference
Your shoes can make or break your race. Get fitted for the right running shoes at a local store, like Running Wild, and invest in moisture-wicking apparel to keep you comfortable on race day.

Listen to Your Body
If something feels off—tightness, pain, fatigue—DO NOT ignore it. Adjust your training as needed, take rest days, and incorporate stretching or foam rolling to stay in top form. See a medical doctor if needed as well. Again, listen to your body.
Recovery Is The Key To Longevity
Cool down and stretch after the race, don’t just stop—walk it out, stretch, and give your muscles time to adjust. Some races even have massage therapists and/or athletic trainers after the finish line!
Refuel Right
Within an hour after your run, eat a meal rich in protein and carbs to jumpstart muscle recovery. And do not forget to rehydrate!
Keep Moving
The day after your race, keep the blood flowing with light activity—think yoga, swimming, or an easy walk. Think anything that ends in an -ing: walking, swimming, rowing, biking, etc.
Prioritize Sleep
Recovery happens when you sleep. Aim for quality rest to allow your body to repair and strengthen.
Compression & Therapy
Compression socks, foam rolling, or even a sports massage can help relieve soreness and promote faster recovery.
Embrace the Challenge & Have Fun!
Pensacola’s races are more than just competitions—they’re a chance to push yourself, connect with the running community, and celebrate movement. Whether you’re chasing a PR or just looking to finish strong, or simply finish, remember to enjoy the journey.
Train hard, recover well, and I’ll see you at the starting line—and the finish line!
