There’s something truly special about stepping away from our daily routines and leaning into time together as a family.
This Spring Break, we packed up the car and headed to the vibrant city of New Orleans—and what we found was so much more than a getaway. It was a reminder of how deeply connected we all are, and how meaningful it is to simply be present.
From the moment we arrived, it felt like the world grew just a little smaller. We met the sweetest people, ran into classmates, and even crossed paths with fellow Pensacolians! It’s funny how that happens—you travel a few hours away, and yet your community still finds you. It was such a beautiful reminder that relationships don’t stop at city limits… they travel with us.
We began our trip staying at The Westin New Orleans, which was perfect for ease and walkability—something I’ve come to value so much, especially traveling with little ones. Later in the trip, we moved to Courtyard by Marriott New Orleans Warehouse Arts District, where the energy of the Warehouse District added a new rhythm to our days. Being able to walk, explore, and experience a city at a slower pace is such an underrated form of wellness.
This trip was a beautiful exercise in balance. We filled our days with movement, exploration, and joy.
After a full day of zoo antics, we wandered through the Garden District, soaking in the charm, architecture, and quaint little shops. There’s something so grounding about walking beneath those picturesque oak trees, taking it all in without a rush.
Of course, no trip is complete without incredible food—and New Orleans never disappoints!
My world was complete when we discovered the delectable Korean cuisine of Sun Chong. It was such a fun and flavorful experience, complete with 90s & early 2000s hip hop. I was in nostalgic paradise!
Our next culinary adventure took us for a modern take on Italian at Sofia which was absolutely exceptional from the ambiance to the impeccable service and every delicious bite in between.
But what stood out most to me wasn’t just where we went or what we did—it was how we experienced it.
Traveling with a 5- and 7-year-old can feel daunting at times, but with a little preparation, it becomes something truly magical. We came ready—with car ride activities, coloring books, and blank paper for their imaginations to run free. And throughout the trip, Meli and V would surprise us with their little creations—drawings, notes, and imaginative pieces that we will cherish forever. Those quiet, creative moments in between the big adventures… those are the memories that stay.
It was the connection, creativity, movement, laughter, and presence. It was in choosing experiences that fill your cup and allowing space for your children to grow, explore, and express themselves. It’s slowing down enough to notice the beauty around you—and the people beside you.
This trip reminded me that wellness doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, it looks like a walk through a historic neighborhood, a shared meal, or a child handing you a drawing they made just for you.
It was never a dull moment—and we are already counting down the days until we go back.
Because at the end of it all, the greatest investment we can make in our health… is time together.
