The Very Best of Me: A Letter to My Children

Some nights, after the house finally quiets down, I find myself just watching you sleep. It’s in those still moments that it all settles over me—the love, the responsibility, the gratitude, the quiet “wow” that I get to be your mom.

My sweet babies, you are the very best of me. You are everything I have ever dreamed of, even in the ways I didn’t know how to dream yet.

You have stretched me, softened me, strengthened me, and shown me a kind of love that I now understand has no edges.

There are days that feel light and easy—full of laughter, bedtime snuggles, silly conversations, and moments I wish I could freeze forever. And then there are days that feel heavy. Days when I am tired, when I wonder if I am doing enough, when the weight of wanting to get it all right feels overwhelming.

But I want you to know something I hope you carry with you always—I embrace it all.

I embrace the hard just as much as I embrace the joy.

Because the hard is where we grow. It’s where patience is built, where grace is learned, where love deepens in ways that easy moments simply cannot reach. And the joy—oh, the joy—is sweeter because of it.

To the moms reading this, I know you feel this too.

The constant balancing act. The full hearts and the full schedules. The moments of doubt mixed with overwhelming love. The quiet questions we ask ourselves when no one else is listening.

Are we doing enough?
Are we giving them what they need?
Are we getting it right?

And yet, we wake up every day and try again. We show up. We love hard. We give our best—even on the days when our best feels a little tired.

That, to me, is wellness.

It’s not perfection. It’s presence.
It’s not having all the answers. It’s choosing love anyway.

And as I write this, I cannot help but think of my own mom.

Thank you for modeling what it means to love selflessly. For showing me what it looks like to give your whole heart to your children. For being the example I didn’t even realize I was learning from at the time—but now carry with me every single day.

Because of you, I knew the kind of mother I wanted to be.

And now, as I look at my own children, I see pieces of that love living on. In the way I hold them, in the way I guide them, in the way I try—imperfectly, but wholeheartedly—to give them everything I have.

My sweet babies, you are my purpose in its purest form. Not in a way that defines me entirely, but in a way that grounds me, that reminds me of what truly matters.

You are the very best of me.

And every single day, through the hard and the beautiful, I am so incredibly grateful to be your mom!
