It was truly a joy to witness and be part of a day that so beautifully reflected the heart of our community during the ‘Heroes & Helpers’ Holiday Event in Pensacola.
The Escambia County Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 4131 led the way in the ‘Heroes and Helpers’ program at Target Pensacola NE Store #1273, making the holidays that much brighter for 42 local children.
In collaboration with the generous support of Target, Fat Albert’s Rugby Team, Navy Federal Credit Union, Commissioners Ashlee Hofberger (District 4) and Steve Stroberger (District 1), and the Escambia County Professional Firefighters Charity, children enjoyed a special holiday shopping spree totaling more than $6,400. Commissioner Ashlee Hofberger serves District Four, where many of the children attend Ferry Pass Elementary School, making her involvement especially meaningful and close to home.
The celebration continued well beyond the shopping experience. Families were welcomed with a hot, comforting holiday meal featuring turkey, ham, and all the trimmings, generously provided and prepared by the dedicated team from Pensacola EggFest.
Days prior to the event, Pensacola EggFest was invited to participate—and they immediately responded with a resounding yes! Their mission to combat food insecurity and care for families in need made this event especially close to their hearts, and they showed up in a big way, ensuring every family felt nourished and cared for.
Pensacola EggFest Grill Master Doug Jolly captured the spirit of the day perfectly, sharing, “Food has a way of bringing people together. If we can help take one worry off a family’s plate—even for a day—then that’s what matters most to us.” His words reflected not only the mission of Pensacola EggFest, but the deep compassion and kindness that defined the entire event.
Adding to the thrill, Escambia County Fire Rescue brought Engine 7 to the event, giving children the opportunity to see a fire truck up close and making the day even more memorable!
Events like ‘Heroes & Helpers’ highlight the power of community, compassion, and service. Seeing local organizations, leaders, and volunteers come together so seamlessly to support families in meaningful ways was a powerful reminder of what makes Pensacola such a special place, especially during the holiday season!
