When we talk about health and wellness, it’s easy to think about workouts, schedules, and doing all the “right” things. But the older I get, the more I realize that some of the healthiest moments in life come from something much simpler—connection. Friendship. Community. Feeling like you belong. That kind of wellness matters just as much.
That’s why being part of the Krewe of Priscus has meant so much to me. I’m genuinely grateful to stand alongside a group of people who lead with generosity, creativity, and heart. This krewe isn’t just about celebration—it’s about giving back, lifting others up, and using joy as a way to strengthen our community. And that, to me, is wellness in action.
All of that comes together in a really fun and meaningful way at our upcoming Mardi Gras Ball, “Mardi Gras Coachella,” happening Friday, January 9th from 7:00–11:00 PM at the Pensacola Bay Center. This isn’t your typical formal event—bring on the beads, feathers, and flair!
Think Mardi Gras tradition meets modern festival energy. Three battling DJs, a full open bar (non-alcoholic options as well), festival-style food, an incredible laser light show—and yes, an actual Ferris wheel inside the Bay Center, something that’s never been done before! It’s playful, it’s bold, and it’s meant to remind us that celebrating together is good for the soul.
What really makes this night special, though, is the purpose behind it.
Proceeds from the ball support Sleep in Heavenly Peace and the ARC Gateway Pearl Nelson Center, two organizations doing important work right here in Escambia County.
Every ticket helps families in need, and that’s something we can all feel good about.
As someone who cares deeply about this community, I believe moments like this matter. They bring people together across backgrounds, create shared experiences, and remind us that taking care of a community starts with showing up for one another.
Health and wellness isn’t meant to always look quiet or serious. Sometimes they look like music, laughter, connection, and a Ferris wheel spinning inside a room full of neighbors! And I am so thankful to be part of a community that knows how to celebrate and give back at the same time.
