We all experience day one. Some of us have them often—cue me raising both of my hands! Even in the time I have started writing this column, I have had several day ones. But they are day ones. Not ponderings about one day.

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s easy to push a workout to the back burner. To lose sight of our personal worth and value, especially when it comes to health and fitness. We often prioritize work, family, and other responsibilities, neglecting our own well-being. Everyone else’s schedules, needs, and care find its way to the forefront, as we bury our own needs and priorities. We think of it as selfless, when, in actuality, its selfish. Recognizing your worth and placing yourself at the forefront of your life is not only crucial but necessary. The key is knowing your personal worth when it comes to health and fitness and how prioritizing yourself can lead to a happier, healthier life.

Personal worth in the context of health and fitness goes beyond the numbers on a scale or the mirror’s reflection. It encompasses a deep sense of self-respect, self-love, and the understanding that you deserve to live a life filled with vitality and wellness. Have you ever traveled by plane? Do you recall the welcome brief at the beginning of every flight? In the case of an emergency, always fit his or her own mask on before helping children, the disabled, or any persons requiring assistance. Meaning, take care of yourself first so that you can take care of others. It is the same in daily life. You MUST take care of yourself before you can take care of others!

Okay. You have made the decision you want a quality life. Now what? It is time to prioritize yourself by:

Setting boundaries. Knowing your worth means setting boundaries in your life. This includes allocating time for exercise and meal preparation without feeling guilty. Communicate your priorities to those around you, ensuring they understand the importance of your health and fitness journey.

Practicing consistency. Consistency is crucial in health and fitness. By making yourself a priority, you’re more likely to stick to your exercise routine and healthy eating habits. Consistency leads to long-term success, both in terms of physical health and mental well-being.

Seeking out professional assistance. Sometimes, recognizing your personal worth means acknowledging when you need help. Seeking guidance from fitness trainers, nutritionists, or mental health professionals can accelerate your progress and ensure you’re making the best choices for your well-being.

There is only ONE YOU. I was speaking with a dear friend recently and we were discussing relationships. The conversation navigated to the relationship we have with ourselves. I commented how the relationship we have with ourselves is the longest and most enduring one we will ever experience in our lives. So why are we not placing high value to it? Why is our longest standing relationship in life not a top priority?? The relationship with ourselves demands love, respect, and unwavering attention. We are undeniably worthy of love, health, and time. Make the conscious choice to prioritize your well-being.
