Ascension Sacred Heart is thrilled to announce it is increasing access to emergency services by building a new freestanding ER in the Five Points area of Pace in Santa Rosa County. The site is at the intersection of Berryhill Road and Chumuckla Highway.
Preliminary plans are to break ground on the project in the summer of 2025 and complete construction in the spring of 2026.
“We have long recognized the importance of bolstering our services across both Escambia and Santa Rosa counties, and this freestanding emergency room is the latest example of our commitment,” said Sacred Heart Pensacola President & CEO Will Condon. “As the Pace area experiences rapid growth, we want to ensure the residents there have access to timely and quality care.”
This roughly 11,000-square-foot emergency room will include a triage area, critical care room, nine treatment spaces and CT and X-ray technology. Over 40 associates will work at the new care site and the team is expected to see nearly 15,000 patients annually.
Sacred Heart has maintained various services in the Pace area for nearly two decades and currently operates a primary care clinic in the Pace Medical Park along U.S. 90. Currently, that location offers healthcare services such as annual physicals, immunizations, lab tests, GYN exams, imaging services and more.
However, for residents in Santa Rosa’s north end, there are limited options for emergency care nearby. This freestanding emergency room provides a closer outlet to those residents as the county and region anticipate more growth in the coming years.
Ascension Sacred Heart has built two other freestanding ERs within the last seven years, including in Navarre and on Nine Mile Road, and it has begun construction on another in the Perdido Key area – highlighting the hospital’s commitment to treating those needing care in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.
“These freestanding structures in Perdido Key and Pace will provide residents in those areas with much-needed emergency services backed by the quality care provided at our main Pensacola campus,” said Ascension Florida Chief Strategy Officer Michael Shaw. “We see how quickly Northwest Florida is growing and changing, and we want to help alleviate any stressors on our area’s current healthcare facilities.”
The ER facility will be operated by Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola, as well as Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart. The Pensacola hospital has the region’s only Level I Trauma Center.
