Get Ready for Fire & Ice with Jo Rich

We are just days away from the Fire & Ice: A Spooktakular Halloween Party Benefitting AMIKids Pensacola and the Local Pulse team wad lucky enough to catch up with Jo Rich as she practiced a fire make up look on Melanie Luna, Local Pulse Health and Wellness Editor and National Board of Trustees Member for AMIKids.

Melanie’s look was inspired by Te Kā, the Lava Goddess in Disney’s hit Moana. Make sure you head to our Instagram page to see the full before and after. Watching Jo work her magic was truly mesmerizing, but listening to her why behind Jo Rich Beauty was even more impressionable and inspiring.

“When I was pregnant with my second son I started having bouts of depression, and then after he was born it hit me like a ton of bricks, I couldn’t get out of bed,” said Rich. “It was really difficult for me because I had never been through that before, but I had seen it happen to my family members.”

Little did she know, a tube of red lipstick would eventually pull her out of her depression.

“It was really a struggle for me until I went to dinner with one of my girlfriends and she had this amazing red lipstick on. I went and bought the lipstick and told myself, ‘to get through this you get up everyday, you put this red lipstick on, even if it’s the only thing you put on that day, and you start your day. Once I started doing that it really really helped me move past my depression. It was really powerful.” Said Jo.

And from there, Jo Rich Beauty was born. Jo’s talent is incredible and we can’t wait to see all the looks she creates for Saturday’s SOLD OUT event that directly benefits AMIKids Pensacola.

AMIkids Pensacola mentors young adults, ages 16-24, to obtain valuable vocational skills and support their progress towards a high school diploma. You can help Pensacola’s young adults end the cycle of poverty, obtain in-demand jobs, and improve educational outcomes.
