Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, and a very active hurricane season, Pensacola Habitat for Humanity celebrated bringing affordable homeownership options to 27 local families and individuals in fiscal year 2021, breaking a five-year record.
On average and under normal circumstances, Pensacola Habitat closes on 20 homes per fiscal year. They are gaining momentum, and projecting to help over 50 families and individuals achieve their dream of affordable homeownership next fiscal year.
“To have provided affordable mortgages to 27 families in our community during this challenging time is truly remarkable,” said Michele DuMond, a seven-year volunteer and third-year board member. “Costs, supply availability, volunteer participation, and fundraising activities were all negatively impacted. I have never been prouder to be involved with Pensacola Habitat and for the support from so many in our community.”
As the need for affordable homeownership options continues to rise, Pensacola Habitat for Humanity aims to serve as many local families and individuals as possible. The community’s support is essential to its mission of building homes, communities, and hope. Without that support, the number of families moving into their homes would be much less. There are many different ways to help, from volunteering on a build site, to donating, serving on committees, and more.
