Escambia County is pleased to invite business owners to participate in the Minority Business Expo on Saturday, June 26 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Brownsville Community Center, 3200 W. De Soto St., Pensacola, FL 32505. The event is free to attend, and participants can register at escambiacountymbx.
“I am extremely excited about the Escambia County Minority Business Expo, which provides an opportunity for minority businesses to hear firsthand what it takes to do business with local government agencies,” said Escambia County District 3 County Commissioner Lumon May. “This is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. My goal is to expand the number of minority businesses who participate in our contracting processes with the county.”
The event is hosted by Escambia County and will include the City of Pensacola, ECUA, Escambia County School Board, Gulf Coast Minority Chamber of Commerce, Department of Management Services – the Office of Supplier Diversity, Pensacola State College, Santa Rosa County District Schools, Studer Community Institute – The Spring and the Small Business Development Center at the University of West Florida. Speakers will include local entrepreneur Quint Studer, Escambia County District 3 County Commissioner Lumon May, Gulf Coast Minority Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Brian Wyer and County Administrator Janice Gilley.
This expo will include valuable resources for minority business owners. A procurement workshop will be offered with county purchasing officials. The Office of Supplier Diversity will provide onsite certification, and businesses should review the eligibility requirements and documentation list to be prepared for onsite certification. There will be opportunities for participants to ask questions and meet with agencies to learn more about contract opportunities. At the end of the day, the Studer Community Institute – The Spring will match each minority owner who is present with a consultant at no charge to help the owner and to provide assistance with Request for Proposal writing.
