Subtropical Storm Alberto is slated to make landfall midday Monday on the Northern Gulf Coast but not likely to strengthen. Forecasters say the storm has encountered a pocket of drier air that has sapped much of Alberto’s strength.
While it could reorganize overnight, it is unlikely to reach significant strength.
The only signs of a storm Sunday on Pensacola Beach were a steady north wind, overcast skies an chest to head-high surf.
With Destin being the expected center of impact, high winds are still likely during the overnight hours and throughout the day Monday. Tropical storm force winds are possible and residents and visitors are encouraged to use caution. Rip tides and high surf is highly likely for the next several days so beach goers should heed the warning flags and stay out of the water if it’s recommended.
The Atlantic hurricane season doesn’t officially begin until June 1.
