PHOTOS: Aerial pictures of Pensacola’s tornado damage

As recovery and clean up in the aftermath of last night’s tornado began today in Pensacola, the shear swath of devastation left behind was especially stark from above. The Pulse captured the aerial scenes as residents, utility crews and first responders worked throughout the day.

Morning damage assessments crews documented 14 destroyed, 40 major and 100 minor damaged structures within the two mile path of the tornado. Crews are still assessing and they expect numbers will grow.

County officials have stated only residents, with proof of residency in the impacted areas, are now allowed back into their neighborhoods. The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is maintaining checkpoints.

Governor Rick Scott has issued an Executive Order declaring a state of emergency for Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties as a result of the tornado. As of this afternoon, officials say there have been no fatalities or major injuries related to the tornado.
