Northwest Florida home to 4 of top 10 most generous places in sunshine state

To many, Florida is best known for its beaches, warm weather and relaxation. But perhaps just as symbolic is the kindness that extends all over the state. According to The Chronicle of Philanthropy, Florida cities and towns are abundant on their list of the most generous places in the country. Check out these philanthropic Florida places — all within the top 100 of the most generous metro areas in the country.

Floridians gave on average 3.38% of their income to charity, which translates to more than $11 billion!  However, have you ever wondered which cities in Florida gave the most to charity? According to the data provided, Northwest Florida is home to four of the top 10 most generous and giving places in the Sunshine State. Check out the list below:

With a giving ratio of 3.68% of their adjusted gross incomes, and a total contribution of $73,412,000, the Panama City metro made the number 10 spot on our list.

Gainesville gave 3.79%, for a total of $115,990,000. Who knew college students could be so generous? Oh, and Go Gators!

Ocala gave $120,494,000, which was equal to 3.82% of its adjusted gross income.

These Gulf Coast towns earned the number 6 spot by giving 3.87% of their adjusted gross incomes, for a total of $102,930,000. Folks in these towns along the Emerald Coast have big hearts.

Coming in at number 5, the Naples-Marco Island metropolitan area gave 3.97% of its adjusted gross income, $663,456,000.

Jacksonville residents reached deep in their pockets and gave 4.08% of their adjusted gross incomes, for a total of $963,375,000. Though not the highest percentage, it was the highest dollar amount on our list.

With a giving ratio of 4.22% of their adjusted gross income, and a total contribution of $183,064,000, Tallahassee made the number 3 spot on our list.

These people of these beach communities donated 4.61% of their adjusted gross incomes, for a total of $209,889,000.

Lakeland and Winter Haven gave 5.2% of their adjusted gross incomes to chairty, for a total of $265,856,000.
