The City of Pensacola and Re-Entry Alliance Pensacola celebrated a full-circle moment Thursday morning with the grand opening of New Horizons Village, a pallet shelter transitional housing community.
Part of the city’s Pallet Shelter Program, New Horizons Village will bring safe, transitional housing and wrap-around support services to individuals experiencing homelessness.
The 14 pallet shelter units are climate-controlled, meet Florida’s building and wind codes, and include a nearby onsite restroom and shower area. New Horizons Village will also have two case managers on staff to assist residents with employment opportunities, medical and mental health referrals, Supplemental Security Income, Social Security Disability Insurance and more.
30 pallet shelter applications have already been processed through Opening Doors Northwest Florida, with residents expected to move in the week of Aug. 17. In the near future, REAP plans to introduce another 14 units to the site as part of its second phase. The goal is to connect residents with essential services and resources, while helping them transition into permanent housing and the next chapter of their lives.
REAP is one of two nonprofits selected by the City of Pensacola in 2025 to receive funding through the American Rescue Plan Act, part of a $1 million investment to expand shelter access and life-changing services across Pensacola.
“This is how we create real solutions to homelessness,” Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves said. “By collaborating with our community partners at REAP, Opening Doors, Community Health Northwest Florida and more, we can create pathways to stability, opportunity, and the prospect of a better future.”
