Allen Turner and the Turner Family Charitable Foundation is making a gift of $15k to Pensacola’s Finest Foundation in support of the Pensacola Police K9 Unit for the purchase of a new dog. This new dog will allow for the retirement of K9 Jones who has been serving since 2019.
The Pensacola Police K9 unit plays a vital role in our law enforcement and public safety mission. Our highly trained dogs assist in tasks such as tracking missing persons, detecting everything from narcotics to explosives, tracking and apprehending suspects, and building clearing and evidence recovery. They act as force multipliers, with their keen sense of smell and agility allowing them to perform tasks that humans cannot replicate as efficiently.
Beyond their operational value, K9s also serve as powerful tools for community engagement, often helping to build trust and positive relationships between police departments and the public. Their contributions make them indispensable partners in modern policing.
But these dogs are not just partners. They become parts of our handlers families, living full time with handlers, their spouses, children, and pets. It is the belief of the Pensacola Police Department that our K9s have a full life between shifts and enjoy a healthy and fulfilling retirement after service.
This donation from the Turner Family will be the third K9 sponsored through a gift to the Pensacola’s Finest Foundation.
