A slow walk downtown with an iced coffee in hand browsing handmade jewelry, fresh produce, local art, plants, baked goods, and meeting the people who actually made them.
That’s exactly what we found at the Sunday Market on Palafox.
Held every Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in MLK Plaza, the market has quickly become one of our new favorite ways to spend a Sunday afternoon downtown. The timing couldn’t be better, either. It starts just as many churches are wrapping up, making it an easy next stop before lunch or an afternoon stroll.
What stood out most wasn’t just the shopping, it was the atmosphere.
The market was created by longtime Palafox Market vendors Michael Sweeney of Jordan’s Custom Woodwork and Jennifer Savage Thomas of Insanely Savage Pecans, who spent years dreaming about giving Pensacola a true Sunday market. Like many local vendors, they often found themselves traveling to places like Fairhope and Rosemary Beach on Sundays to sell their products. Instead, they decided to create that opportunity right here at home.

Nearly every vendor we spoke with had glowing things to say about Jennifer, describing her as one of the best market organizers they’ve ever worked with. Maybe it’s because she’s a vendor herself and understands what it takes to create a successful event, but there’s an undeniable sense of community throughout the market. Everyone from the organizers to the vendors to the shoppers seemed genuinely happy to be there.
Jennifer’s own business, Insanely Savage Pecans, is also worth stopping by for, offering seasoned pecans made with her signature handcrafted spice blends.
