Have you ever heard the phrase, “God works in mysterious ways”?
I’d like to challenge you to reframe the idea that God works mysteriously and consider that His ways may be more obvious than we give Him credit for.
This, is your weekly opportunity to take a moment and see if you recognize God moving in your own life.
Where have you noticed God this week?
If it’s not normal to “notice” God during the week, let me share a few of my own examples.
Oftentimes, when I talk with friends who haven’t yet developed a relationship with God, simply giving God credit for the wins of the week brings new awareness to the “mysterious” way things have worked out.
Did you notice the sunrise and sunset? Yeah, He did that for you.
When you were hit with the weight of anxiety the other day, did you manage to get to sleep that night? If so, that kind of peace is delivered by God himself.
Remember that terrible situation you were following along with in your friend’s life, that they were miraculously delivered from recently? Yep, God is responsible for that miracle too.
Did you hear that so and so was pregnant? Truth be told, the miracle of new life comes from the creator of the heavens and the earth. I believe He is the one who makes it possible to both naturally conceive AND responsible for the brains behind the new age baby making.
Are you tracking with me? The coincidences, good things, and answered prayers happening all around us are special deliveries from God himself.
Before you bypass the blessings and bring up the fact that there are still unanswered prayers, still people suffering, or questioning why bad things happen to good people; let me pause your rebuttal.
Y’all have heard that saying about assuming. I’ll let you Google it if not. Rest assured that God is not done with the terrible or suffering situation just yet. Life is seasonal, and the time is coming when He will use that pain for His good.
As life goes on, we get caught in the current and can quickly lose sight of what is happening in the present moment. We start to play the blame game because we have trouble sitting in discomfort. God didn’t design us with fingers to point at all that’s wrong in the world. He designed our hands to surrender what we have to Him and to serve others.
I’ve never liked the phrase “Practice makes perfect.” In my house we say, “Practice makes progress.” This removes the expectation of perfection and softens a situation with grace when someone fails, has a bad day, or blows a fuse.
As we practice seeing God in all things, we begin to build a greater reverence for all things.
Reverence is a little thicker than respect. Respect is great and all, though I’ve seen people be conditional with respect. Reverence can be described as unconditional humility towards all things under God.
“And further, submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”
Ephesians 5:21 NLT
Building our muscles to revere versus solely respecting makes us stronger than we thought possible. This applies to us spiritually, physically, and emotionally.
Consider these holy moments an opportunity for us to be better together. When something good happens during your week, I challenge you to thank God for it. The next time you feel a wish granted or a prayer heard, I encourage you to give God the credit. Let the simple wins be sufficient, and the losses be an opportunity to learn or grow deeper in your ability to trust what awaits on the other side.
As the world tries to weigh us down with doubt and fear, I’ll be praying that you grow in your ability to revere.
