Pensacola’s public safety community is throwing its support behind Mayor D.C. Reeves as he seeks a second term, highlighting the strong partnerships that have developed between City Hall and the men and women who serve on the front lines every day.
Mayor Reeves announced endorsements this week from Escambia County Sheriff Chip Simmons, the Fraternal Order of Police Jim “Billy” Barnes Lodge #71, and the Pensacola Professional Firefighters (IAFF Local 707).
Since taking office in 2022, Reeves has consistently emphasized public safety as a top priority for the City of Pensacola, supporting investments in first responder pay, equipment, training, and infrastructure aimed at helping police officers and firefighters better serve the community.
Sheriff Chip Simmons said Reeves has earned the confidence of those who work to keep Pensacola safe.
“D.C. Reeves is the kind of leader you want working for your community,” Simmons said. “He listens, he shows up, and he puts people first. That approach matters, especially when it comes to public safety and quality of life, and that’s why I’m proud to support his re-election in 2026.”
The Fraternal Order of Police also pointed to Reeves’ commitment to supporting law enforcement and fostering collaboration between city leadership and officers serving residents and businesses throughout Pensacola.
“Mayor Reeves has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to public safety and consistently recognized the vital role law enforcement plays in maintaining a safe, secure, and thriving community,” said James M. Parsons, president of the Jim “Billy” Barnes Lodge #71.
Pensacola Professional Firefighters President Joseph McCombs echoed that sentiment, noting the mayor’s support for firefighter training, equipment, and resources.
“Mayor Reeves has been a steadfast advocate for our department, ensuring we have the necessary training, equipment, and resources to prioritize public safety,” McCombs said.
For Reeves, the endorsements reflect years of collaboration between local government and public safety agencies.
“I’m extremely honored to be endorsed by some of Pensacola’s finest public servants,” Reeves said. “I am proud of the positive working relationship the City of Pensacola has with the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, our firefighters, and police officers.”
He added that those partnerships have helped the city make progress not only in public safety, but also in supporting local businesses and advancing long-term projects designed to strengthen Pensacola’s future.
A Pensacola native, Reeves was sworn in as mayor on Nov. 22, 2022, becoming the youngest person elected to the office in more than a century. Prior to entering public service, he built a career as a sports journalist, author, entrepreneur, and community advocate.
Pensacola voters will head to the polls for the mayoral election on Aug. 18, 2026.
