30 Years Later, In His Steps Christian Dance Studio Continues to Impact Generations

There are places in every community that become more than what they were originally created to be. Over time, they grow into something deeper. They become part of the stories families tell, the memories children carry into adulthood, and the values passed from one generation to the next.

For the past 30 years, In His Steps has been one of those places.

What began as Miss Amy’s School of Dance aboard NAS Pensacola has become a cornerstone for countless families across our community. While students certainly learned technique, rhythm, and performance skills, the lessons extended far beyond the dance floor. Young dancers learned discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and confidence. They learned how to encourage one another, how to work hard, and how to use their gifts to glorify God.

As a parent, I’ve had the privilege of watching firsthand what makes In His Steps so special. Our oldest daughter, Kalli, has danced there for nearly 20 years. Through every recital, rehearsal, friendship, challenge, and milestone, this studio has remained a place where faith and excellence walk hand in hand.

 In a world that changes quickly, there is something remarkable about an organization that stays true to its mission for three decades. Generations of dancers have walked through those doors. Many are now adults raising families of their own, yet the impact of their time at In His Steps continues. That’s the thing about legacy. It doesn’t end when a recital is over or a student graduates. It lives on in the people whose lives have been shaped along the way.

Thirty years is certainly worth celebrating, but the real achievement isn’t measured in years. It’s measured in lives impacted, confidence built, friendships formed, and faith strengthened.

One of the most remarkable parts of the IHS legacy extends far beyond the dance studio’s walls. Through Chaddah, a non-profit, pre-professional dance company founded by In His Steps, dancers have used their talents to “raise awareness and expose the atrocities of human trafficking, activate others to understand how to protect and spot human trafficking and connect the community with local organizations and ministries” through a performance titled “Encounters of Hope.” Their impact reaches around

the globe as they have recently served in Peru, Brazil, and India where they helped establish an orphanage now housing approximately 150 children. It’s a powerful example of how a ministry rooted in dance has grown into a mission of service, compassion and hope, changing lives both in our community and around the world.

Founder Amy Pernie stated at last night’s final recital for this season, “I used to dance for the world’s applause, but after I became a Christian, I chose to use dance as a form of worship, pointing people to Christ.”

The name says it all. For three decades, In His Steps has been leaving footprints on stages, in families, and throughout our community.

Congratulations on 30 years of dancing, serving, and inspiring. Here’s to the generations that have come before and the many more who will follow in those footsteps.
