Lucky Dough Pizza, the Pensacola-based naturally leavened pizzeria known for its wood-fired Pizza Napoletana, has been recognized by 50 Top Pizza USA 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious and internationally respected pizza guides.
Often described as the “Michelin Guide of Pizza,” 50 Top Pizza is an independent global ranking system created by Italian food journalists. Anonymous inspectors travel internationally and evaluate pizzerias based on dough quality, ingredients, service, and overall experience. The organization releases annual rankings across multiple regions worldwide, including the United States, Europe, Latin America, Asia-Pacific, and the global world rankings.
Lucky Dough Pizza has been invited to attend the official 50 Top Pizza USA 2026 awards ceremony in New York City this May, where the final rankings and recognitions will be publicly announced.
Unlike many nationally recognized pizzerias operating within highly controlled environments and dedicated dough laboratories, Lucky Dough Pizza has built its reputation while working in a modest, poorly insulated building and stretching and baking naturally leavened Pizza Napoletana outdoors in unpredictable Florida heat, humidity, and weather conditions using traditional wood-fired brick ovens imported from Italy.
“Most people don’t realize how difficult it is to maintain consistency with naturally leavened pizza outdoors,” said founder Arpan Patel. “We work through changing temperatures, humidity, and unpredictable conditions every single day. That makes this recognition even more meaningful to us.”
The recognition places Pensacola alongside many of the country’s major culinary cities and highlights the city’s growing hospitality and food culture on a national stage.
Patel, who is entirely self-taught, started Lucky Dough Pizza less than two years ago as a small setup at Pensacola’s Palafox Market before growing it into a nationally recognized pizzeria.
“Pensacola is now home to one of the best pizzerias in the country,” Patel added. “We’ve dedicated ourselves to bringing world-class pizza to Pensacola through craftsmanship, fermentation, and respect for the process.”
Patel credits the achievement to the people who supported the journey from the very beginning.
“First and foremost, thank you to my family — especially my parents, who I am nothing without. Thank you to the Pensacola community for believing in us from the farmers market days until now. And to my team, thank you for weathering every challenge alongside me and embracing the high standards, discipline, and commitment it takes to pursue excellence every single day.”
