Keyla Richardson soon could be coming home for a community concert and parade to celebrate her “American Idol” journey, but she will need Pensacola’s support to get there.
Mayor Reeves met Keyla Richardson and her son Drew in February 2026.The City of Pensacola is leading the preliminary planning effort for a free homecoming concert at Community Maritime Park and Wahoos Stadium tentatively scheduled for the evening of May 6.
Each season, the top three “Idol” finalists are followed to their hometowns for a parade and concert before the season finale. The 2026 finale from Hollywood is scheduled for May 11 on ABC.
Richardson is currently in the top seven, with the next cut to five coming on Monday, April 27. The top three will be decided on May 4. Those finalists are treated to the “hometown hero” celebration.
“We as a city are so excited for her journey and we need to turn out in full support of Keyla to ensure that our ‘Idol’ makes it home for the celebration she deserves,” said Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves.
Reeves is working with Escambia County Commissioner Lumon May on the details of the event. Reeves already had two preliminary calls with “American Idol” producers as the field of competitors has narrowed.
“American Idol” has been a pop culture touchstone since its debut in 2002. The show launched the careers of singers Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson. This would be the first time Pensacola has hosted an “Idol” finalist.
