Save the date for Pensacola’s 37th annual Earth Day festival on Saturday April 18 from 10 am – 4 pm at Bayview Park, located at 2001 E. Lloyd St. The event showcases sustainable living through a fun day of environmental education, art, live music, local food, green products and hands-on activities.
Some of the event highlights include a repair cafe popup, native plants, yoga sessions and planet-friendly cuisine. There’s also a lineup of local singer-songwriters and acoustic bands that will keep the celebration going all day long. We encourage folks to walk, bike and carpool down to the event.

Can you give me a brief history of the event (when it was started, how long it has been going on, etc)?
The first Earth Day was a huge national event on April 22, 1970. It was called the National Environmental Teach-in, with hundreds of thousands of students on high school and college campuses getting outdoors and taking environmental lessons. There were local Earth Day events at UWF and Pensacola State College. And there were a few more local celebrations of Earth Day after that, but the event mostly took a hiatus until it was resurrected on the 20th anniversary in 1990. And it’s been going strong ever since then.
What are you most looking forward to for this year’s Earth Day Pensacola?
I love that we have so many local vendors with earth-friendly hand-crafted items. These are things like art and personal care products that people make in their kitchens and home workshops. It’s so great to support our local artisans and craftspeople. And of course I love the food. We’ll have amazing planet-friendly food from several local sources. One of the fun new elements this year is a repair cafe popup offering clothing/soft goods and ceramic repairs.
What should the community expect at the event?
Amazing live music and art, education, hands-on activities, fun stuff for kids, and all of it in a wonderful waterfront park lined by oak trees. This is also such a great event for families. Grab the kids and come down for a day of earth-friendly fun!
