Helping seniors stay safe and confident online takes more than technology; it takes trusted relationships and community collaboration.
That’s exactly what was accomplished at Safer Seniors Pensacola, an online safety open house hosted at Fairfield Manor in recognition of National Senior Independence Month.
Results from the Cox Mobile Safety Survey indicate that more than 40% of seniors have experienced cybersecurity issues over the past 12 months. As technology becomes more central to daily life, older adults face increasing risks online, from scams to misinformation.
Cox Communications hosted the event, attended by seniors from two Pensacola-area independent senior living communities.
Interactive stations and a fireside chat covered phishing, fraud, social media safety, and device security, with input from experts Guy Garrett with University of West Florida’s Center for Cybersecurity and AI, and Elizabeth Miller, certified senior consultant and founder of Happy Healthy Caregiver.
Escambia County leaders joined the event, showing strong community support. At a recent County Commissioner’s meeting, February 11 was proclaimed Safer Seniors Day, celebrating this community resource and in recognition of National Senior Independence Month, in Escambia County.
“Safer Seniors is about more than awareness, it’s about empowerment,” said David Deliman, Cox market VP. “By bringing trusted community partners directly to residents, we’re helping seniors feel informed, confident, and supported as they navigate the digital world.”
