The City of Pensacola welcomes the return of the GL52 sailboats to Pensacola Bay on March 19 for the second annual GL52 Southern Series regatta, where teams will compete for the Pensacola Cup.
The ClubSwan 28 Fleet, an American Magic and Nautor Swan collaboration, will also join the first Southern Series event and make its United States debut in Pensacola Bay during the regatta — competing alongside the GL52s.
“We’re looking forward to returning for a second year with two great events that continue to build momentum for the sport,” GL52 Fleet Manager Linda Lindquist said. “We had a great turnout last year, and we are excited to continue to spread awareness of what Pensacola has to offer, driving our mission of developing American Sailing talent.”
With the opening of the American Magic High Performance Center at the Port of Pensacola this past January, the city is part of the growing world of professional sailing and the return of America’s marine industry — attracting global sailing championships such as SailGP, featuring F50 foiling catamaran racing, and advanced ship manufacturing with Birdon America.
“Pensacola is truly becoming a destination in world-class sailing and marine innovation,” Mayor D.C. Reeves said. “To have the GL52 Southern Series, the ClubSwan 28 Fleet and American Magic all collaborating right here in our city, showcasing cutting-edge engineering, manufacturing, world-class boatbuilding and design, is tremendous for Pensacola’s growth and innovation.”
The GL52 Series is a competition of high-performance sailboats comprising amateur and professional sailors, including those who have competed in the America’s Cup and Olympics. The two-part racing event will run March 19-22 and April 9-12.
