NEEDS

“I need you, God.

I need breath.

I need love.

I need protection.

I need compassion.

I need grace.

I need patience.

I need you.

Lord, I am full of needs. You see them all! I pray you replace my many needs with the most important one, You. My heart is overwhelmed with love that I know belongs to you, though my actions sometimes feel disconnected from that truth. There is a force which gets in the way of me devoting all of my love to you.

Lord I feel like my ability to choose and to stay focused is compromised. The world around me and the worry inside drowns me at times. Lately, I feel it more intensely, debilitating in some ways.

Lord I pray you draw near. I ask that you receive my prayer because I am desperate for your direction. Please make it clear.

My own will is not enough. I pray to not offend you, and ask that you wash me clean of anything that goes against you.”

“”But God is so rich in mercy, and He loved us so much that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead.””

– Ephesians 2:4-5

I was hesitant to share that entry with you. It felt like TMI to tell you that I am in need and desperate for God. The truth is, that entry is the truth. See, I’ve been praying about Holy Moments.

I’ve been asking God, “What’s next? How do I turn up the volume on what I’m sharing?” I’ve considered interviewing people and asking them about their own “holy moment” experiences. The series would ask the question, “How has God shown you what He can do?”

For anyone new here, holy moments are the divine, miraculous, path altering, and life changing moments that could only come from God. If you are looking, asking, or listening, more often than not, you will experience one for yourself.

As I was looking, asking, listening, and hoping for a response to my prayer on “How do I take Holy Moments to the next level?”.. I was hit with a reply that didn’t sit well with me.

“Share your writings.”

Not happening. Like Jonah ready to jump ship, Hagar hauling tail into the wilderness, or Peter panicking on the boat – I was not going to start sharing my intimate writings with y’all! Too bad so sad, you’ll get what you get, but the journal entries ain’t it.

Well, you see how that worked out.

The writings I feel convicted to share live a layer beneath what I’ve been serving up the last couple of years. It’s the wreckage in words, the heartache I’m holding, and the vault where my most valuable prayers are living.

Don’t worry, these entries aren’t all sad and the scriptures are good news. It is good news that we have a God who listens to our prayers. It is good news that God knows the desires of our hearts. It is good news that we are invited into relationship with the God who formed us in our mother’s womb.

It is good news when a vulnerable moment I’ve had is able to help you.

Finding my way through life without faith was lonely, suffocating, and challenging. Oddly enough, I’ve found that faith is formed through seasons of desparation. My hope grows deep the more I find myself in need.

God will not waste a single moment of your story. There is purpose in the joyful moments, the prayerful moments, and the challenging moments too.

Holy Moments

Give it a try:

Take a moment in the notes on your phone or a journal you have and give it a try. Not all days are a cry for help or a need. More often than not, I start by thanking God for what He has done lately. Then, write out a small prayer to God, sharing whatever comes to you.
