If you’ve been following my Skincare Journey series at The Skincare Center at Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery, you know I’ve been taking a more intentional approach to how I care for my skin. It started with a much-needed Glo2 facial, the kind that reminds you your skin deserves more than a rushed nighttime routine. Then came Botox, a tiny tweak that smoothed the stress and sun that came along this summer, and now, with winter in full swing, I’m stepping into the next chapter: Pico Laser.
What is a Pico Laser? The PicoSure laser is an innovative technology that offers remarkable skin rejuvenation and tattoo removal. It is an excellent option for those seeking to enhance their skin and minimize signs of aging without the drawbacks of traditional methods. PicoSure uses precise energy to address pigment issues, like hyperpigmentation, freckles, and sun spots. It also improves skin texture by targeting acne scars, rosacea, and large pores. The advanced Focus Lens feature stimulates collagen production, helping to tighten and smooth the skin.
This week, I visited the Skin Care Center at Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery for a full consultation, and I couldn’t have been in better hands. There’s something about walking into a space where people genuinely understand skin. It feels like exhaling.
I met with Sarah, who has that perfect mix of calm confidence and “I actually care about your face” energy. She looked at my skin thoughtfully, honestly, and with a vision. We originally thought the BBL Hero laser would be for me, but after analyzing my skin and hearing my goals, she suggested the Pico Laser as the best option. My biggest skin concerns are melasma and discoloration.
“Pico Laser is one of our most versatile treatments, especially for pigment issues like melasma and sunspots,” she explained. “It allows us to target discoloration without damaging the surrounding skin, and most patients start to see real brightening after just a few sessions.”
She broke down the science in a way that made sense, but also outlined how advanced this specific treatment is.
There was just one small problem:
I had literally just gotten back from Costa Rica. And, like most lasers, recent sun exposure is a big no no. As much as I enjoyed the Costa Rican sun, ocean, jungle adventures, my skin needed a rest before we started this treatment.
“We want your skin calm, protected, and ready. Timing matters just as much as the treatment itself,” Sarah said.
And honestly? I appreciated that. I love when providers lead with safety, not speed. So for the next several weeks, I’m officially in my prep era — hydrating, babying my skin barrier, avoiding the sun, and getting ready for the first session. Sarah also got me started on a medical skincare routine using Skin Medica products that are going to really going to ensure my skin is ready.
What I love about this whole process is how each step builds on the last:
A facial to reset.
Botox to smooth and soften.
Pico Laser to clear, brighten, and even everything out.
And here’s the best part:
I’ll be bringing you along for every moment of the laser journey — the sessions, the after-effects, the healing, the glow-up, and all the honest in-between phases. LocalPulse will have the full behind-the-scenes look so you can see what this treatment actually looks like in real life.
Whether you’re battling sunspots, curious about treating melasma, or just in your own self-care season, I hope this series gives you insight, encouragement, and maybe a little inspiration to invest in your skin, too.
We’ll start the Pico Laser treatment in just a couple of weeks — and trust me, I’m counting down! Stay tuned for the journey.
