As part of my ongoing skincare journey this winter with Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery and Skin Care Center, I recently completed my first PicoLaser treatment, something I’d been curious about for a while, especially to address melasma and uneven pigment.
I’ll be honest, I was excited, but I was also nervous. I haven’t done many laser treatments, and when people hear the word “laser,” it can sound a little intimidating. I wanted to know what it actually felt like and what the recovery really looked like.
From the moment I walked in, the experience felt thoughtful and unhurried. After check-in, paperwork, and before photos, Sarah walked me through the entire process step by step. Knowing exactly what was happening made all the difference. The laser we were using is actually the same one they use for tattoo removal! Obviously they use it on a lower setting, but my esthetician Sarah was confident this was the best route for my skin issues.
Once my makeup was removed, numbing cream was applied generously and left on for about 15 minutes. They also use a cold air blower during treatment, which not only helped dry the numbing cream but made everything incredibly comfortable and pain-free.
With protective goggles on, the treatment began and to my surprise, I barely felt anything. Thanks to the numbing cream and cold air, the sensation was mild and very manageable. It was quick, controlled, and far less intense than I had imagined.
After the laser which took about 15 minutes, a cooling gel mask was applied to calm the skin, followed by sunscreen (non-negotiable). My number one aftercar? No sun and wear sunscreen like it’s my job! Not just for the week, but for the rest of my life. I left the office feeling taken care of and informed.
The next day, I had minimal side effects with no scabbing, just slightly altered texture. On day two, some of my pigment appeared darker, which I was told is completely normal as the skin begins to respond. About a week later, everything settled beautifully, and my skin looked clearer and more even.
This was a really positive first experience with laser treatments. It felt approachable, comfortable, and educational the opposite of overwhelming and painful. PicoLaser isn’t a one-and-done treatment, and I’m excited to continue with my second session and see the results build over time.
If you’re curious about laser treatments but hesitant, I hope my vlog above gives you a realistic, honest look at what the process can be like. Huge shoutout and thank you to Sarah and everyone at Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery and Skin Care Center for making my experience so wonderful and my holidays extra glowy!
