The rolling greens will soon echo with laughter, camaraderie, and hope as athletes, community leaders, and supporters gather for the annual Krewe du YaYas “One Stroke Closer to a Cure” golf tournament, a philanthropic event benefiting the Keeping Abreast Foundation. This year’s tournament promises not only spirited competition but also a meaningful opportunity to stand together in the fight against breast cancer, while you help to raise money for your community.

Driving Change—One Stroke at a Time
On October 10, 2025, at the Scenic Hills Country Club, participants will tee off with a shared goal: raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research, support services, and community outreach. The Keeping Abreast Foundation, a local nonprofit dedicated to empowering individuals and families impacted by breast cancer, will receive all proceeds from the event. “Golf is more than a game; it’s a chance to bring people together,” said Event Chair Patti Ellingson. “KDYYs One Stroke Closer to a Cure combines the thrill of competition with thepower of collective action. Every swing, every putt, is a step toward a future free of breast cancer.”
About the Tournament
This year marks the tournament’s twenty first anniversary, a milestone that reflects both the dedication of its organizers and the generosity of the community. Over the past two decades, the event has contributed to the more than $450,000.00 in funding that the foundation has provided to breast cancer patients through our partnerships with Woodlands Medical Specialists, The Women’s Group and Baldwin Health. Registration for the tournament is open now, with entry fees set at $500 per team. Sponsorship opportunities are still available, with customizable packages designed to maximize visibility and community engagement. Players will compete in teams of four in a traditional scramble format, with registration beginning at 11:00 a.m. and a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. tournament will feature:
- 18 holes of golf with golfer gift bags
- Food & Beverages provided throughout the course
- Awards Dinner
- On-course contests, including longest drive, closest to the pin and a hole in one competition with a 10,000.00 cash prize.
- Door Prizes, Chance to Win prizes and a 50/50
Between swings, guests can visit tents hosted by The Krewe du YaYas for additional fun and festivities unlike any tournament you have experienced before.

A Day of Celebration and Remembrance
Celebration signs are available to purchase in memory of, or in support of someone fighting/who fought/or who lost the battle with breast cancer. Celebration signs are sold for $100.00 and used at all three Krewe du YaYas fundraising events; One Stroke Closer to a Cure, I Pink I can Run, and the Pink Ribbon Tennis Tournament. All three of these events benefit the Keeping ABreast Foundation.
