Food Crush: The Wisteria Sandwich Shop

In theory, a perfectly balanced meal includes a protein, a vegetable or two, some fruit and a carbohydrate. There’s no beating the simplicity and satisfaction that comes from a great sandwich, and The Wisteria Sandwich Shop took this knowledge and ran with it.

If you have been following our Food Crush videos and articles you know our team of ‘crushers’ are a group of long standing friends who are also the chefs and pit masters behind Pensacola Eggfest. What you might not know is they are also regulars at Pensacola’s oldest bar, Wisteria Tavern.

When Wisteria Tavern owner, Terry Abbot and long time General Manager, Heidi Fischler, turned their food truck dreams into a reality, they knew they wanted to honor their regulars and grant them the highest accolade by naming their gourmet sandwiches after them.

It only made sense to take the team to food crush on their namesakes and it is fair to say Heidi and Terry have made the guys very proud. These sandwiches are not only delicious, but they take you around the world with their variety of flavors, toppings breads and sauces. Make sure to watch our full video review above and have a look at what we ordered below.

The Uncle Buck

London broil roast beef, Vermont cheddar, pickles, pickled onions, & house-made horseradish sauce on a hoagie — don’t forget to add a side of Au Jus.

The Nephew

Tavern ham, brie cheese spread, deli mustard, bacon, apricot marmalade, spring mix on sourdough bread.

The Brando Sando

Genoa salami, hot italian cappy, tavern ham, cream havarti, & our chopped italian salad with lettuce, white onion, tomato, chopped cherry peppers, seasoning and o&v on a hoagie.

The Cuban

Roasted pork, tavern ham, spicy pickles, swiss cheese, creamy creole mustard sauce on La Segunda bakery Cuban bread. Folks, this is the real deal!

The Rueben

Pastrami navel topped with swiss cheese, kreole kraut, russian dressing on marbled rye. And it’s worth mentioning the kreole kraut is something special — Zero notes.

The Canuck Rugger

Sliced roasted pork, thai slaw, with a house-made scallion-sweet thai sauce, fresh jalapenos, cucumber, cilantro-garlic- lime aioli on a hoagie.

We’ve always been told not to choose favorites, so we’re not. Each one tastes just as delicious as the next making it truly impossible to choose our favorite bite. And we didn’t even get through half of the menu.

Heidi and Terry have truly created something special and for the lucky readers who have made it through this article you will be happy to know you can receive 10% off your Wisteria Sandwich order all of June by mentioning this article.

We can’t thank Heidi and Terry enough for having us and for being dear friends of ours and the community they serve.

“Not only is Heidi the ‘flavor ninja’ behind Wisteria Sandwich Shop, she is also the Manager of our favorite watering hole,” said Doug Jolly. “Heidi does EVERYTHING. You’d be hard pressed to find someone who works harder and I’m sure Terry would say the same.”

Good people, good sandwiches and good beer — need we say more?
