Players from all over the world are coming to Pensacola to compete in the Pensacola Pro Tennis Championship, a USTA Men’s Pro 30K Circuit event. The competition runs from May 8 to 18 at Roger Scott Tennis Center.
Players representing countries like Australia, Kazakhstan, Japan, Portugal and many more will gather in Northwest Florida to compete in this tournament. Pensacola Sports Director of Events Amy Marquez said this tournament attracts some of the most highest-ranking players in the world.
“These elite athletes are among the highest-ranked from around the globe,” said Marquez. “Last year, German tennis pro Alexander Zverev, who has ranked as high as #2 in the world, played in the 2024 French Open. And in 2013, when he was 16, he played right here in Pensacola in this tournament. The tennis community loves this tournament!”
Pensacola Pro Tennis Championship Tournament Director Brock Sakey said the tournament attracts the young and the experienced.
“This tournament attracts both young and established players,” said Sakey. “These are young up-and-coming athletes as well as established players who have already made the quarter finals in the Australian Open and Wimbledon, and may be coming back from an injury or trying to resurrect their career. We’re seeing the top .0001 percent of tennis players in the world.”
Past players include Alexander Zverev, Dennis Shapovalov, Felix Auger Aliassime and Jack Sock. Pensacolian Justin Lyons, a Catholic High graduate who’s playing at Florida State University is expected to play again this year.
“It’s an honor to have the opportunity to play in this tournament in my hometown,” said Lyons. “It’s the chance of a lifetime to be able to compete with these players and continue to improve my game.”
