On Thursday, March 25, Upward Intuition had the privilege of hosting 13 inspiring students from Independence for the Blind. This event was a remarkable opportunity for these young individuals, aged 8 to 18, to experience the thrill of skateboarding while learning valuable skills.
With the help of eight dedicated volunteers, the students were introduced to the fundamentals of skateboarding. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as one student remarkably mastered the art of “dropping in” on a quarter pipe—a skill that typically takes months to perfect—within just one hour. This achievement exemplified the students’ determination and enthusiasm for the sport.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to Waterboyz, who generously loaned helmets and skateboards for each student, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience. Among the participants, two students are completely blind, while the remaining eleven are in various stages of degenerative blindness, a condition that leads to a gradual and irreversible loss of sight.
The day was not just limited to skateboarding. The students also visited the From the Ground Up community garden, where they engaged with nature by learning about different plants, experiencing the scents of various herbs, and even planting seeds. This hands-on experience emphasized the importance of nurturing both the environment and personal growth.
Upward Intuition is committed to organizing more clinics for students in the future. Organizations interested in collaborating or inquiring about upcoming camps can reach out at 850-572-0488 or connect with us on social media.

The day proved to be rewarding not only for the students but also for the volunteers of Upward Intuition. “Our mission is to inspire and empower the next generation by creating opportunities for outdoor recreation, personal growth, and community connection. We believe in fostering inclusive spaces that encourage creativity, resilience, and a sense of belonging. Together, we are making a meaningful impact in the lives of these young individuals.” — Laura Branch, Upward Intuition
