My Aunt Roberta has fought cancer for many years. When she was in the worst season of the battle, she held onto one word; WAIT.
Wait = Worship As I Trust
Wait. When bad news arrived, my aunt quickly went into a waiting pattern. This first word quickly grabbed my attention. Why wait? Why not act? Why not do something? I believe there is tremendous truth within this word.
Wait.
We tend to be very impatient people. If you are like me, patience can be a challenge. I don’t like waiting. Slow Internet, slow grocery lines, slow drivers, and slow “fast” food drives me crazy. I’m not proud of my impatience. We can be so impatient in the silliest ways. Patience is the toughest when suffering comes knocking on our door.
Wait.
Worship as I trust? Can that really be possible? How can we worship when we are faced with obstacles too large to overcome? I believe knowing God and diving into His glorious promises can cover us in our seasons of waiting. Knowing God involves an increased love and devotion to His Word. Just in Psalms alone, truth can be found in waiting while trusting Him.
Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD! – Psalm 27:14
I waited patiently for the LORD; he inclined to me and heard my cry. –Psalm 40:1
I wait for the LORD, my soul does wait, and in His word do I hope. – Psalm 130:5
J.I. Packer wisely wrote in his book Knowing God, ““Wait on the Lord” is a constant refrain in the Psalms, and it is a necessary word, for God often keeps us waiting. He is not in such a hurry as we are, and it is not his way to give more light on the future than we need for action in the present, or to guide us more than one-step at a time. When in doubt, do nothing, but continue to wait on God. When action is needed, light will come.” Light will come. That is why we wait. He will act. That is why we wait. He will lead. That is why we wait.
My Aunt Roberta was right on. Worship as I trust Him.
Wait.
This is key for responding to suffering. This is key to everyday life.
He is good, so I worship.
He saves, so I trust Him.
He will lead, so I will follow.
Will you wait?
