The annual Northwest Florida Heart Ball took place on Friday, March 14th at The Sanctuary in Pensacola.
Through the partnership with the Heart Ball Chairs, Rob and Jenny Rushing, of Gulf Breeze, and their incredible Executive Leadership Team, the American Heart Association of Northwest Florida raised $240,938 to help advance the lifesaving mission for best-in-class cardiovascular research, vital public health education, and raised awareness about the number one killer of Americans.
The Rushings and their team of volunteers designed a Gatsby-era-themed event that quickly turned into a party, starting in the basement of the venue. As guests arrived actors from Gulf Breeze High School’s drama department gave secret passwords to enter the speakeasy.
The basement was decorated in bold gold and black art deco patterns and candlelight. Guests were treated to passed hors d’oeuvres and special drinks topped with rock candy swizzle sticks.
Following the cocktail hour, guests went upstairs to the main ballroom for a seated dinner prepared and served by David Penniman’s team at Classic City Catering.
The emcee for the evening was Marty Stanovich, Executive Director of First Tee Gulf Coast.
A silent and live auction featuring one-of-a-kind artwork and experiences created a buzz and some friendly competition, followed by an important educational portion.
Like the four chambers of the heart, four individuals demonstrated the direct impact that the American Heart Association has on the local community. Representing the chamber of Knowledge was Dani Aylsworth; representing the chamber of Equity was Kelly Rozier; representing the chamber of Discovery was cardiologist Daniel Doty, MD; representing the chamber of Advocacy was Monica Sanford. From Type 1 diabetics to members of the medical community, these representatives shared how their lives have been directly impacted by the AHA and how they have served its mission.
The Caretakers of the Torch were Ronnie Faria, Samantha & Larry Kuhn, and baby Noah Linville. Noah was joined by his parents Katie & Trevor Linville and big brother, Benjamin. Noah was born with a heart defect and is thriving today due to advancements in research and procedures funded by the American Heart Association.
Following dinner, guests exited to the south side of The Sanctuary. Local favorite band, The Yardlights, created the perfect atmosphere for after-dinner drinks and dancing under a clear, sky-view tent.
“By investing in the mission of the American Heart Association, our Heart Ball guests ensure that a perfect stranger will be able to celebrate another birthday, another holiday, or another important life milestone. Every life saved is someone’s entire world, and being able to do that is so meaningful and impactful,” said Inger Berg, Senior Director at the American Heart Association.
