We made it! It’s Mardi Gras Week in Pensacola and we had the honor of joining The Zimmern Team at Brentwood Elementary School last Friday for a very special Mardi Gras Parade. For the last several years, community partners and krewes come together to put on a bespoke parade the entire school during Mardi Gras Season ~ 420 Students & 62 Faculty.
Brentwood Elementary is a low income school that might not see a Mardi Gras celebration otherwise. Tonya Zimmern was a graduate of Brentwood Elementary and strongly believes her purpose is to make people feel empowered and show individuals from all walks of life that they are worthy, they can do big things, and they can make a difference in our community.
Tonya’s husband, Danny Zimmern, is the president of Pensacola Mardi Gras so the event is a no brainer for the real estate team. This is the second event the team participates in at Brentwood Elementary School and it’s one they look forward to each year.
Empowerment starts at a young age. The first critical period of brain development begins around age 2 and concludes around age 7. That means elementary age students are some of the fastest learners on the planet– both academically and cognitively. Not only are they learning things in school, but they are learning socioeconomic boundaries that are being pushed on them. They are listening to adults who are influencing their way of thinking daily. That is why spending time with these students is important to The Zimmern Team.
Mardi Gras Season is a season of celebration, tradition and fun, but it also a season of community give back. The Zimmern Team’s commitment to the spirit of Mardi Gras is one we admire and also one we are grateful to be a part of. The smiles on the children’s faces says it all! Happy Mardi Gras!
