Pensacola International Airport (PNS) hosted over three million travelers last year and that number keeps growing. To keep up with demand, the airport team hosted a public open house to review preliminary concepts for the passenger terminal expansion project on Wednesday, December 4. The intention of the open-door gathering was to receive public comment on the renderings designed by luis vidal + architects. The airport’s expansion project team was in attendance and open to the community’s thoughts before implementing their designs.
Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves is encouraged by the process now underway. “We are 100% committed to moving this project forward,” says Mayor Reeves. “We also recognize the importance of reaching out to our citizens, those who use our airport, to find out what they want the future of air travel to look like in their city.”

“We’ve been truly inspired by the enthusiastic feedback, strong interest, and impressive attendance from our supportive community,” says Matt Coughlin, executive director of Pensacola International Airport. “Our team is excited about the future and looks forward to continuing to grow alongside and in service to our community in the years ahead.”
Security screening has remained a hot topic amongst the airport’s growth. The TSA expansion component of the renovation is expected to be completed in 2027. The second element of the expansion will be a new concourse addition comprised of five new gates. The new gates will allow the airport to accommodate more daily flights.
Along with the airport expansion project, last month PNS opened its brand-new long-term paved parking lot complete with 435 parking spaces, two bus shelters and 14 electric vehicle charging stations to accommodate steadily growing usage of the airport.
After the open house, the airport will now move forward with the next steps toward making the expansion happen.
