Gulf Breeze Zoo is overjoyed to introduce the newest member of the Gulf Breeze Zoo family—Chibuzo! This little Nile hippopotamus is the third calf born to parents Cleopatra and Kiboko. You can spot the happy family from the Safari Express Train as it passes by the Kiboko River Station. He stays close to mom so the best time to view Cleo and Chibuzo is between 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. daily.
The world’s third-largest land mammal, Nile hippopotamuses weigh around 3,000 pounds, eating mostly grasses. They spend up to 16 hours a day underwater to keep cool but when they’re on land, they can run up to 30 miles per hour.
