Ding, Ding, Ding… Round 6!
Ladies and gentlemen, you’re in for a treat as tonight, I am introducing a new Pensacola Eggfest cook team whom you may recognize from our beautiful downtown scene.
Meet Team Palafox.
Team Palafox is comprised of local Pensacola folks, most of whom were born and raised here, who also happen to either own or build local businesses on Palafox St. If Palafox St. was a neighborhood, and these business owners were still kids, they’d build forts and ride bikes together.
This week’s team is none other than Nathan Holler of Dog House Downtown, Stephen Clarke of Hanto & Clarke, and Jesse Breedlove, husband of Rusted Arrow Mercantile owner, Samantha Breedlove.

Jesse & Samantha BreedloveSo what you may not know about Team Palafox:
Their secret ingredient: “We typically put an article of our opponent’s swag (Hot Spot Charters) under a bed of coals. The swag burns nice and slow and creates an even fire and smolders throughout the cook to add an extra layer of flavor to our food.”
If they could only cook with one ingredient: “No doubt, a good salt.”
The most unexpected dish you’ve cooked on the Big Green Egg: “Definitely bread pudding. We aren’t really sweets guys, so when we were challenged to cook an entire meal, start to finish on the egg one time, the best dessert we could come up with was a savory bread pudding. It soaked up all of the smoke from the fire and was delicious.”
Their best BBQ fail or mishap: “We did an overnight cook of 20 lbs. of pork butt in the ovens at the restaurant a few years back. Being rookies, we forgot to put a drip tray under the meat and started a grease fire. Thank God for fire suppression systems or we would’ve burnt down Palafox street.”
If Team Palafox could have one famous person (current or historical) on their cook team it would be: “Donald Trump! Not for political reasons. We just think he’d figure out a way to make great BBQ while making our opponents pay for it.” (Don’t worry, no political candidates are being endorsed or not endorsed by this answer).

As you can tell, the competition is heating up. Teams are researching, planning, and likely taste testing their upcoming recipes with friends and family.

Pensacola Eggfest will take place at Noon (or earlier if you snag a VIP ticket which are 95% sold out), Sunday November 10th, 2024, at Hadji Temple, 800 W 9 Mile Rd, Pensacola, FL 32534 . The event hosts BBQ teams and backyard cooks from all over the United States who share two things: a love of cooking and the joy of giving back to their communities. Since 2013, over $780,000 has been donated to local charities from this little BBQ party.
