Hey Pensacola, there’s a storm brewing, it’s been raining for 87 years and it’s recommended we all stay indoors. While you are keeping safe and checking your phone often for weather updates, here is a list of some recent binge-worthy shows to watch while you are a couch potato the next few days.
If you know me, you might know I am kind of a tv junkie — I love everything from classic sitcoms, documentaries, reality tv, cooking shows and more. So, in no particular order, here is a list of my recent and current watches.
Chimp Crazy
This 4 part documentary on HBO Max makes Tiger King look like a nature documentary. Former nurse-turned-exotic animal broker Tonia Haddix, spends her days caring for animals in captivity. However, her love for one chimpanzee in particular spins into a wild cat-and-mouse game with authorities and an animal rights group. This documentary was hard to watch, but I couldn’t stop watching at the same time. You’ll be hooked, trust me!
Bad Monkey
We’re staying on the monkey theme, but this one is not documentary, isn’t really about a monkey and can be found on Apple TV. “Bad Monkey” tells the story of Andrew Yancy (Vince Vaughn), who has been bounced from the Miami Police Department and is now a health inspector in the Keys. But after stumbling upon a case that begins with a human arm fished up by tourists, he realizes that if he can prove murder, he’ll be back in. He just needs to get past a trove of Floridian oddballs and one bad monkey.
Secret Lives of Mormon Wives
Where are my tik tokers and reality tv lovers? This show will have you hooked from episode 1. Hulu follows the scandalous world of a group of Mormon mom influencers that implodes when they get caught in the midst of a swinging sex scandal that makes international headlines. Now, their sisterhood is shook to its core. Faith, friendship and reputations are all on the line. Will #MomTok be able to survive and continue to give the rulebook a run for its money, or will this group fall from grace?
Tell Me Lies
I have been waiting for Hulu to come out with season 2 for over a year, and after the first three episodes of season 2, I can officially say it was worth the wait! Based on the novel by Carola Lovering, the series traces the toxic relationship between Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen (Jackson White) over eight years, from college to young adulthood. Sex, drugs, lies and drama! What more could you want in a tv show? Fun fact, the two main characters are dating in real life.
The Perfect Couple
Netflix always delivers and The Perfect Couple is no exception. The perfect murder mystery for all the detectives out there. I am no detective, but I did not see the ending coming! Based on Elin Hilderbrand’s New York Times best-selling novel, The Perfect Couple follows Amelia Sacks (Eve Hewson), a bride marrying into one of Nantucket’s wealthiest families. The groom’s mother, Greer Garrison Winbury (Nicole Kidman), a famous novelist, spares no expense on the high-society wedding. But, when a dead body appears on the beach, everyone becomes a suspect.
Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
Sometimes we just need a break from reality and The Rings of Power takes us far, far away from real life and real world problems. The Rings of Power, created by Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, focuses on the major events of the Second Age of Middle-earth, a largely unexplored part of the history of Tolkien’s world that you can read about primarily in the appendixes of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Even if you’re not familiar with the trilogy (like me), you’ll be impressed by the half a billion dollar budget used to create the series and fantasy land.
Go grab your favorite snacks, put your pjs on and flip on your pick for a cozy night in front of the tv. Stay safe and happy watching couch potatoes!
