Shawn Reeves has been named Team Member of the Quarter for Global Connections to Employment (GCE). GCE is one of the country’s largest private employers of people with disabilities.
Shawn works as a grounds landscaper for GCE in Pensacola. Outside of work, he is known for the random acts of kindness he shares with his neighbors and community.
Shawn’s coworker Peggy nominated him for Team Member of the Quarter after witnessing him help a stranger who was fleeing domestic abuse and had left all her belongings behind. When Shawn approached and asked if she was okay, the woman began crying and shared her story with Shawn, who didn’t hesitate or judge. He brought her an emergency set of clothes he had in his car, as well as some change and a hot cup of coffee.
“From words of encouragement, sharing food with a neighbor or helping someone out who needs assistance, Shawn doesn’t hesitate,” wrote Peggy. “He always interacts with those whom he passes, sometimes offering the very jacket off his back.
About 360 GCE team members with disabilities live and work in Escambia, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties at places like Naval Air Station Pensacola and Eglin Air Force Base. Across the country, more than 1,500 people work for GCE.
GCE provides support and training for people with disabilities, including war-wounded veterans. GCE empowers team members through meaningful employment, matching them to careers in in IT, food services, custodial services, contact centers and facilities maintenance.
