Discovering the Best Gluten-Free Gems in Pensacola!

As someone who’s always on the lookout for delicious healthier and gluten-free options when eating out, I’ve spent the last few months exploring the culinary scene in Pensacola. Whether you’re gluten-intolerant, have celiac disease, or simply prefer to avoid gluten because it makes you feel your best, finding dishes that are both safe and satisfying can sometimes feel like a challenge. And let’s be real, eating out is fun and a way to socialize, connect (& take a break from your own kitchen!), and many of us struggle with giving that up to feel better.

I have good news: you might not have to! There are some Pensacola restaurants that offer some incredible gluten-free options that not only meet dietary needs, but are also absolutely delicious!! I took my husband along for most of them, and he even agreed!

Here are my top picks that prove you don’t have to sacrifice flavor for health.

Don Cha Peruvian

We’ve been hearing rave reviews about this new Peruvian gem in town, and let me tell you, it absolutely lives up to the hype! Run by friends and family from Peru, this spot is the real deal—packed with authentic culture, vibrant flavors, and a truly welcoming vibe. With several gluten-free options on the menu, we were in heaven.

Our top picks? The gluten-free Chicken Wings (yes, you read that right!) and the charred Octopus appetizer. Nate and I are big fans of octopus when it’s fresh and cooked just right—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and bursting with flavor. This dish hit all the marks, served over savory choclo, sliced russet potatoes, and topped with a homemade pesto. Pair it with their signature Pisco Sour, and you’ve got yourself the perfect, easy, and fun date night! We talk about going back all the time!

The Dog House

When I’m out and about in town, craving a quick, easy, but healthy lunch, the Bowls at The Dog House are my absolute go-to! Thanks to some gentle nudging (wink wink), they’ve swapped their soy sauce for a gluten-free version, so now these bowls are a great option for anyone avoiding gluten. You can choose between chicken, shrimp, or steak, all topped with pickled onions and the best brussels sprouts in town. I love this bowl!

Whether it’s lunch or dinner, if the kids or hubby are in the mood for a burger, you can still opt for something lighter and healthier while joining the fam for a fun night out. The Dog House has something for everyone—kids, moms, dads, and even the pups are happy here!

Bonus: Their fried mullet, coated in cornmeal, and oysters in corn flour are also gluten-free, perfect for satisfying those down-south seafood cravings. Trust me, the fried mullet with their homemade tartar sauce is a must-try. If you haven’t had it yet, you’re missing out!

Carmen’s Lunch Bar & Tapas

Carmen’s is a lunch staple in downtown Pensacola. Small and quaint, with a few outdoor seats and a U-shaped bar inside, it’s a fun place to call a girlfriend for a quick, light lunch mid-week.

The best part? Maria Carmen, the owner, has been gluten-free for over 20 years, so she knows her stuff! I’d say 75% or more of the menu is gluten-free. If you think gluten-free means bland or boring, Carmen’s will change your mind.

My friend Grace and I tried several popular GF options and were blown away. We started with the Thai Curry Crab Chowder—coconut milk, yellow curry, and cilantro in one heavenly cup. Grace had the Cuban Pork Plantain “Pie,” which was savory, spicy, and bursting with flavor, while I opted for the chicken salad, fresh and light with basil and almonds, served over a white balsamic green salad with gluten-free crackers. We also couldn’t resist the Spanish Crab Cazuela, rich and full of jumbo lump crab, chorizo, cheese, lemon, and saffron, and you can lighten it up by pairing it with their side salad. It’s the perfect dish for a chilly Fall lunch. Hellooooo October!

Global Grill

Global is one of our top date night spots in Pensacola. The food is consistent, the servers are impeccably trained and knowledgeable and we love the owners, Jane and (Chef) Frank. Fun fact: Jane recently went gluten-free, so the menu now includes plenty of GF options, all marked with a little “gf” icon.

For our gluten-free date night, we started with the Yellowfin Tuna appetizer (ask them to hold the soy to make it GF), served over fava bean succotash—so fresh and delicious! We then shared my favorite truffle mushroom arugula salad, which is also gluten-free, along with all their salads. For the main course, we opted for a special—flank steak seared to perfection and served over fingerling potatoes with a beurre blanc sauce. All of their steaks are now gluten-free, thanks to their in-house Worcestershire swap.

We ended the night with a taste of their two gluten-free dessert options: the Ice Cream Sundae topped with fresh berry compote and homemade whipped cream, and their divine Crème Brulee. If you’re looking for a romantic dinner with impeccable service (& healthier menu options!) this is your spot.
