FPL & Council on Aging Deliver over 3,000 Hurricane Meal Kits to Local Seniors

Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) and Council on Aging of West Florida partnered to distribute over 3,000 hurricane preparedness meal kits to more than 1,200 seniors in Santa Rosa and Escambia counties on Monday, June 3. With the start of what is anticipated to be an above-average storm season, this effort will help provide vital supplies to seniors in the communities FPL serves.
Volunteers from FPL and the Council on Aging will help package and distribute the kits. The hurricane preparedness meal kits include three days of shelf-stable food, water and snacks for seniors who may not be able to leave their homes or receive home-delivered meals after a storm impacts the area. The kits also include a storm preparedness guide that provides resources for seniors.
Council on Aging offers two options for in-home meal assistance, Meals on Wheels and private-pay, home-delivered meals. They also operate senior dining sites throughout Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties, where individuals 60 and older can gather for meals, socialization and recreation.
