5 Free Activities For Summer Time

Can y’all believe that summer is just around the corner? It took too long to come to terms with the fact that we, the adults, don’t get the same two-and-a-half-month summer vacation that our kids do. Although parent schedules may still be the same, our kids go from busy to now relying on us for fun all day.

In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week this week, teachers, thank you for all that you do! We as parents truly appreciate you!

As for summer plans, it is important to prioritize spending quality time with our kids while we can. Someone recently shared the haunting reality that we only have 12 short summers with our kids before they are off to the big leagues. That time goes by quickly! It’s important to fill their summers with wholesome memories that keep them going when these summer-less adult years kick in.

These 5 free activities supply special moments and give you an excuse to spend quality time with your kids! Pensacola has lots to offer and that’s one of the many reasons it is such a great place to live.

Go To The Beach

We are blessed by public access to almost all of our beaches surrounding the Pensacola area. Though there may be a toll fee or small cost for entry to some, it is completely free to get sand on your feet! Beach trips are a great way to get outdoors, spend time by the water, and enjoy the summer heat. Be sure to bring the right gear, umbrellas, sunscreen, water, and hats. Y’all know it can get HOT here. Here are a few of the best beaches around you:

  • Bruce Beach
  • Johnson Beach
  • Navarre Beach
  • Pensacola Beach
  • Perdido Key Beach
  • Sanders Beach

93 Parks and Recreation Areas

You could make a whole tour of visiting a park per day and soon surpass the length of summer vacation. The City of Pensacola has done an amazing job of creating open spaces for families, kids, and furry friends to enjoy. Our community is buzzing with playgrounds, dog beaches, dog parks, pavilions, monuments, and more for your family to explore!

Visit a Nature Trail

After a long day of sitting indoors, getting out for a nature walk doesn’t seem like a chore. Pensacola has a variety of trails for walking, biking, hiking, and more. Grab a backpack, water bottle, and a can of bug spray and hit the trails. Here is a compiled list of fun trails to explore: https://localpulse.com/2023/07/tour-de-trails-around-pensacola/

National Aviation Museum

Pensacola is home to the National Naval Aviation Museum which is filled with rich history, interactive exhibits, and grounded aircraft carriers. The museum is fun for the whole family and offers an educational opportunity to learn about Pensacola and our military. The museum offers an IMAX experience which is sold separately. In addition to the museum and IMAX experience, the Blue Angels practice on-site weekly! Find out more information about the museum, check out their website here: https://navalaviationmuseum.org/

Live Music Nights

One of the benefits of living in Pensacola is being able to find live music all throughout the week. During the middle of summer, there is nothing better than winding down in a lawn chair with a cold drink. Pack a cooler with a picnic or shop the food vendors on site. Let the music fill the air and dance away your summer nights! Find weekly concert schedules and more information about these summer concert series in the link!
