Make A Weekend Out Of Mullet Tossin’

You know it’s going to be a party at the Flora-Bama. Since 1964 the Flora-Bama has brought good times and good music to the Gulf Coast. Find a calendar full of Flora-Bama’s favorite events happening year-round on their website. This weekend is dedicated to mullet tossing.

Yep, it is what it sounds like. Men and women are slingin’ mullet from one state to the next. People gather from all over the place, booking condos months in advance to secure their spot on the sand for this exciting endeavor.

You can find all the information needed below to prepare yourself for a weekend you won’t forget.

What is a mullet?

Popularly known as a business in the front party in the back haircut in the 80’s, we are referring to the abundant saltwater fish that populate the Gulf Coast waters.

A mullet is one of the more popular and plentiful fish indigenous to the Gulf Coast area. It is the only fish with a gizzard and is said to possess mystical properties. Known as baitfish on the East Coast and a local fried favorite here.

What is the Mullet Toss all about?

The Mullet Toss consists of individuals on the beach throwing a mullet, from a 10-foot circle in Florida across the state line into Alabama. Not to mention a great excuse to throw a weekend-long party, with lots of fun activities, and great music all while helping raise money for our local community!

Why toss a mullet?

Proceeds from every mullet tossed will go to Local Youth Charities, including local schools’ education and prevention programs from the Community Drug & Alcohol Council, Inc. (CDAC) which offers programs, community support, and collaboration to address drug and alcohol abuse, tobacco, mental health issues and violence both in the home and on our streets.

Each year, with your help, we have raised and contributed over $40,000 to local charities, especially youth organizations on both sides of the state line.
