Even though it may not be on the actual Twelfth Night of Christmas, Pensacola celebrates Twelfth Night the first weekend following New Year’s Day.

This celebration begins at 5 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m. on Saturday, January 6 at Government and Palafox Streets.

The launch of the Carnival season showcases Krewe Mardi Gras floats that remain stationary. A traditional New Orleans second-line parade with brass bands leads the revelry for a night of blessings and fun.

A priest leads the second line of government officials and local officials to bless each float. Each Krewe is recognized for its commitment to Pensacola’s Mardi Gras celebrations.

Traditional jazz music from a brass band creates an atmosphere for dancing and fun to start a season filled with king cake, parades, balls, and charitable events.

Mardi Gras has deep roots all along the Gulf Coast and Pensacola is no exception with an entire season full of events. Pensacola Mardi Gras, Inc. is the hub for all things Mardi Gras in the area, so be sure to follow them on social for updates. There’s even a Pawdi-Gras for four-legged revelers and a new event Mardi Gras Mambo featuring Flo Rida. Information on Pawdi-Gras is at www.wolfgangparkandbrews.com.
