Navarre’s Slippery Mermaid turned 14 this month

It’s not hard to convince me to go to sushi any day of the week. In fact, if you ask me what I want for dinner, more than 50% of the time I will suggest sushi. Why? Because it’s visually stunning, easily enjoyed amongst friends and lastly it can satisfy both my eating moods, light and healthy or deep fried and sauced up.

I do realize sushi is not for everyone, but perhaps this is because you have never been to The Slippery Mermaid in Navarre, They have redefined the meaning of sushi and truly have a little something for everyone, including land-lovers. This little seaside gem just celebrated their 14 year anniversary, and it’s easy to see why they have been thriving for well over a decade.

What initially draws you in to “The Slipp” is the adorable exterior. It reminds you of classic coastal beach house straight out of your favorite romcom. The indoor space is just as special — intimate, artsy, family-owned and a truly boutique experience. They even have a Florida room that offers an ‘Al fresco’ experience.

The real draw of this coastal cutie is their menu which appeals to sushi lovers and sushi skeptics. The menu has a diverse array of different sushi’s and even includes plenty of items for the not-so-adventurous eaters. The menu gives you options other than raw fish by featuring many enticing, cooked versions of these Japanese favorites. If you’re still hesitant, they even have options for the land lovers, vegans, gluten-free diners , ultra-picky eaters and everything in between. The Raider Roll features seared steak, avocado, and cream cheese inside; topped with scallions and spicy mayo dots

As for me, I completely trusted my server and went off of her recommendations — the Mermaid Tails to start with, five pieces shrimp tempura, drizzled with sweet heat glaze; toasted coconut, cilantro, and rice. And The Psycho Mermaid roll — shrimp tempura, avocado and cream cheese topped with baked surimi blend and eel sauce.

Every bite was delicious from start to finish. The colorful, instagram-worthy presentation of these bite-sized flavor bombs are worth the drive to Navarre if you’re looking for creative flavor, combined with a casual, relaxed atmosphere.

Happy belated birthday to the Slipp, thanks for being a Gulf Coast sushi staple. Follow their Facebook Page and for more delicious content.
