Getaway to Gilchrist Springs Cabins

Let’s get one thing straight, I am not a goody two shoes, I’m just not a camping girl. Maybe not even a glamping girl depending on the bathroom and tent situation. But I am a girl who loves getting outdoors and enjoying all the beauty Mother Nature has blessed us with. I just prefer to do that with air conditioning, hot showers and a toilet that flushes. WHY SUFFER?

I am here to tell all the ‘i-like-camping-but-not-real-camping’ folks like me about a hidden gem I stumbled upon last weekend. Getaway Cabins in Gilchrist Springs — 45 cabins on 90 private acres nestled in nature right outside the old Florida town of High Springs. The outpost offers an onsite trail, a mix of mature oaks, and enchanting Spanish moss, and is near natural wonders like, Devil’s Millhopper and Geological State Park, Gilchrist Springs and Ginnie Springs.

Their tiny cabins offer everything you need and nothing you don’t. Sleep soundly on a queen bed or queen bunks with fresh linens and comfy pillows. This Florida heat has nothing on the brand air conditioners and a landline by your bedside will ensure your safety against any Big Foot or Sasquatch encounters. The large picture window by the bed gives you that camping feel without the mosquitos and without the smell of citronella.

The mini kitchenettes are equipped with a two-burner stove, mini-fridge, dishware, and cookware. A private bathroom comes fully equipped with a hot shower, bath towels, toilet paper, soap, shampoo, and conditioner and YES a toilet that flushes.

Just outside your cabin, enjoy a patio with a with a fire pit, grill grate, picnic table and chairs, plus firewood or charcoal and a firestarter for purchase.

All of the above was absolute perfection, but it was the small touches that really stuck with me and have me itching to return to one of their 30 outposts located around the country. A personalized note on the table, a lantern, a card deck, a speaker  and the cherry on top was the s’more kits and coffee and tea available in each cabin for a small fee. Did I mention they’re dog friendly too? Yep, Fido gets to come too!

There is one more week before school starts and I highly recommend squeezing in one last summer adventure before life gets in the way. Thank you Getaway for a perfect weekend slowing down, wanderlusting and marveling at our beautiful Earth. Find a photo gallery below and video review on our Instagram page.
