A New Event Venue is Taking Over Snack Crate

For many years, Culinary Productions’ owner Mike DeSorbo has dreamed of owning and operating a downtown event venue to host weddings, reunions, birthdays, corporate events and more.

For the past five years, DeSorbo has been looking in earnest for the perfect venue that offered the right amount of space in the right location.

“I was meeting with a friend and he asked if I had looked at the old Snack Crate building on Tarragona and Wright Streets,” said DeSorbo. “We immediately got up from his office and went to look at it. I knew right away I was interested. It seemed to be the right location and a space that we could bring the same elegance we bring to our catering.”

That friend was realtor Danny Zimmern, who had known that the building’s owners were looking to lease out part of their new space.

“Whitesell-Green was in the process of building out their office space in one part of the building and were looking for a tenant for the remainder of the building,” said Zimmern. “It was a perfect fit, and Mike will soon realize his dream and be hosting events there before the end of the year.”

The 5000-square-foot event space will allow DeSorbo to host events for 200-plus people for daytime and nighttime events every day of the week. He’s keeping his current headquarters on Main Street for all catering operations.

“We plan to be finished with all of the renovations by September and are taking reservations now for November,” said DeSorbo. “We’re super excited to introduce everyone to the new space — it’s going to be a versatile, beautiful venue people are going to love.”

DeSorbo said adding the venue to his business will naturally lead to the growth of his staff.

“We hope to add up to 15 positions within the next few years as we grow,” said DeSorbo. “This is a dream that is finally coming to fruition.”

Whitesell-Green’s Vice President of Design, and architect for the event venue, Carlos Godinez said they’re excited to welcome Culinary Productions to the space which dates back to the mid 1920s. In addition to Snack Crate, the space has been home to many businesses over the years including an auto service company, an automotive upholstery business, and a grocery store under several names and owners.

Whitesell-Green worked with local architecture firm Goodwyn Mills Cawood to design their office space as well as to update the exterior of the brick building. The updates to the exterior of the building included bringing back original openings that had been covered up in the past. Many of these openings will provide natural light into the event venue.

“Being a part of Mike’s dream is thrilling for us,” said Godinez. “A venue like this is a great addition to this pocket of Downtown Pensacola. We can’t wait for Culinary Productions to officially open.”

Location: SE corner of N Tarragona St. and E Wright St. in Downtown Pensacola
