Pensacola EggFest & Moe Cason Team compete and win in Memphis

Team Moe Cason and Pensacola Eggfest placed 3rd for Pork Shoulder at the Memphis in May World Championship BBQ Cooking Contest

Pensacola’s very own Pensacola EggFest squad teamed up with Team Moe Cason and brought home 3rd place for Pork Shoulder in the World Barbecue Cooking Contest in Memphis.

The grilling contest is part of the Memphis in May International Festival held May 17 – 20. Champion Pit Master Big Moe Cason is the host of National Geographic’s World of Flavor and winner of more than 35+ BBQ competitions. Pensacola EggFest cofounder Doug Jolly said despite a few hiccups, the team rallied together for a win.

“Finishing 3rd and taking home a GLOBE will be something we’ll remember forever,” said Jolly. “We were cooking against the best teams in the world — many of whom are our friends and BBQ family. And after all these years, it never gets old — it’s an absolute honor and privilege to be a part of Team Moe Cason barbecue.”

Recognized by USA Today as the “Most Prestigious Barbecue Contest,” the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is a four-day competition held in Memphis. This year the organization handed out more than $145,000 in prize money. The pork grilling competition includes ribs, shoulder, and whole hog, as well as hot wings, sauce, and “Anything But Pork” categories.

Cofounder Jerold Hall said the win is due recognition for the team’s hard work and Chef Big Moe Cason’s quest.

“The Pensacola EggFest squad has been at it for some time and teaming with Moe for 6 years in his quest to take it all at the World Championship Barbecue event,” said Hall. “This win is the culmination of a lot of work to refine our craft. It feels good and we’re stoked to bring it home to Pensacola.”
