Join Bike Pensacola for the most popular bike ride in town–the Slow Ride! Each month we explore the quiet, scenic streets of Pensacola’s many historic neighborhoods for a fun and leisurely ride among friends.
For May we are joining with the Pensacola Association of Realtors to host Pensacola’s first Kids’ Slow Ride followed by a Bike Safety Rodeo. Kids will ride (and parents can join them) a little less than a mile to a nearby East Hill park and back, escorted by motorcycle officers of the Pensacola Police Department. Free helmets will be given away by Sacred Heart Hospital, and participants will be eligible for prizes such as free bicycles. The pedal-powered The Rickshaw Live will join the Ride with live music by Pensacola performer Pat Meusel. No registration is required and the Kids’ Slow Ride is free.
After the Ride, the Bike Safety Rodeo will take kids through a ride course set up in the Square to teach safe riding skills. The adult Slow Ride will also roll from Malaga Square at 10 am. More information is available at https://www.bikepensacola.org/ or on Bike Pensacola’s Facebook page.
Because most cyclists are “self-taught,” each month we offer information about bicycle laws, and safety tips, and address different bicycling skills that will help keep rides safe and enjoyable. The ride will be about one hour and ten minutes long, at a casual pace. Nobody will be “dropped” or left behind. Children must be at least 10 years of age to ride their own bicycle, and ages 10 – 16 must be accompanied by an adult. No pets are allowed on the Rides. Cyclists under 16 must wear a helmet by law; for ages 16 and up helmets are recommended but are not required by law. We will enjoy a ride escorted by officers of the Pensacola Police Department.
